Dick Huddart .

Born 22nd June 1936, in Flimby – Cumbria

Signed for the Whitehaven Rugby League club

for £250 after playing amateur rugby with Risehow.

Dick Huddart has lived in Australia since signing for St. George in 1964, making only a brief return to the U.K. in the early 70s.
We managed to intercept Dick on his visit to the U.K. to appear at the 2007 Challenge Cup Final, along with many other of the Lance Todd Trophy winners, who were presented to the crowd before the match.
In the nearly two hour interview, Dick tells us about his early days as an amateur, signing professional for Whitehaven, how he quickly came to the notice of the Rugby League at large. Being the first Whitehaven player to be chosen as a British Lion, to tour Australia on the 1958 tour, his record move to St. Helens and his move to Australia, in his prime, to play for the 8 times on the trot Grand Final Winners St. George.
Rated by his fellow players as the Greatest Second rower in the World and indeed rated by many as the greatest Second Rower of all Time
